Meet Abby: Founder and Speech Pathologist with a Special Interest in Childhood Apraxia of Speech1/1/2026 Hello and welcome! My name is Abby, and I’m the founder of Sound Abilities Speech Pathology. I’m a speech pathologist with a special interest in speech sound disorders, literacy development and Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).
I grew up in the United States but eventually found my way to Australia, where I now call beautiful Bribie Island home. I feel incredibly fortunate to live and work in this community and to support local children and families in their communication journeys. Throughout my career, I’ve been particularly drawn to helping children who find speech difficult. Many of the children I work with have complex speech sound disorders or Childhood Apraxia of Speech, where learning to speak clearly requires intensive, specialised therapy and a lot of encouragement along the way. Supporting these children and their families has become the main focus of my clinical work. I have a particular clinical interest in Childhood Apraxia of Speech and frequently work with children who require intensive, motor-based speech therapy. My approach is evidence-based and neurodiversity-affirming, and I focus on helping children develop communication skills that support their participation, confidence and wellbeing in everyday life. I've completed training in Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), the Nuffield Dyspraxia Programme (NDP3) and Rapid Syllable Transition Training (ReST). Alongside speech therapy, I also enjoy supporting children with early literacy skills, as speech sound development and reading are closely connected. Helping children build strong foundations in both speech and literacy can make a meaningful difference in their confidence and success at school. I founded Sound Abilities Speech Pathology with the goal of creating a practice that provides high-quality, personalised therapy while supporting families every step of the way. I believe therapy works best when it is collaborative, practical and focused on real-life communication. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors and exploring the beaches, nature and wildlife around Bribie Island. I also love continuing to learn and develop new resources that support children with speech sound disorders and Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me. I look forward to meeting you and supporting your child’s communication journey.
